I spend most of my time working on Sofar, building technology to help humans connect with the ocean. Prior to that, I founded OpenROV, an underwater drone company, and Open Explorer, a community of professional and amateur explorers around the world. I’m a member of NOAA’s Ocean Exploration Advisory Board, a TED Senior Fellow, and a National Geographic Emerging Explorer.

I wrote a book: Zero to Maker. I write more frequently on Medium. All my expeditions and adventures are documented on Open Explorer. You could follow me on Twitter, too.

Prior to underwater drones, I managed a sailing school in Berkeley for a few years. I still sail as much as I can. If you want to hear the long story, there’s a good interview on NPR's TED Radio Hour.
